New Zealand Diploma in Aviation (Aeroplane) (Flight Instruction) Level 6

This course is a Level 6, 265 credit qualification which is 88 weeks in duration. The course includes a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) and either a Single or Multi Engine Instrument Rating as well as a C Category Flight Instructor Rating. This course would ideally suit those students that wish to pursue a career as a Flight Instructor or as a pathway to build hours towards an Airline Career.

Aim

The aim of the course is to provide the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve a Commercial Pilot Licence with type and instrument ratings (entitling the holder to legally operate an aircraft in New Zealand for commercial purposes), and achieve a C Category Flight Instructor rating, and achieve other skills selected from night fly instruction, aerobatics instruction, spinning instruction and ATPL Human Factors.

Graduates will be qualified commercial pilots, with a C Category Flight instructor rating, able to exercise the privileges provided for by NZCAA in New Zealand and any other employment options in the ancillary branches of aircraft operations and support roles.

Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) theory subjects including;

Air law, flight navigation general, meteorology, principles of flight and aircraft performance (Aeroplane), general aircraft technical knowledge (aeroplane), and human factors.

Content

Flying practical and flight tests for CPL covering;

• Knowledge of ground examination subjects as above, and,
• Knowledge of the privileges & limitations of a CPL, and,
• Technical & operational knowledge relevant to the aircraft type used in flight tests, and,
• Competence to operate the aircraft, and,
• Control of the aircraft at all times ensuring successful outcome of procedure or manoeuvre is never in doubt, and,
• Competence in radiotelephony.

Type rating for aircraft under 5700kg

C Category Flight Instructor Rating

Instrument rating including (may be either SEIR or MEIR );

- Air law, navigation & flight planning, instruments & navigation aids

Competency for night flying & instrument flying for night flying privilege

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for entry to this programme, applicants must;

• 17 years of age but be at least 18 years of age before the date of CPL flight examination or ATPL subject examinations
• Successfully complete the ADAPT Trainee Pilot Pre-screening Test
• Hold NCEA Level 2 or Trade Cert Level 4 or Equivalent
• Hold an Aviation Class 1 medical certificate
• Meet the 'Fit & Proper Person' requirements of NZCAA
• Be competent in spoken English to meet NZCAA requirements
• Provide driving history report and Ministry of Justice report
• Provide 3 references (2 oral, 1 written)
• Provide a letter outlining your interest
• Attend an interview at NZICPA
• Complete an internal Maths and English Entry Test

In addition, international students must;

• Be 18 years of age or over
• Have an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher
