Student Care

Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students

Commercial Pilot Academy has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. While the obligations on us in respect to the code do not directly apply to New Zealand Students we are committed to your pastoral care and have adopted the approach of applying the same principles.

We will maintain a watch over you after work living conditions and assist as we can - please do not hesitate to ask for assistance if required.

Class numbers are small with an Instructor/Student ratio of 1:4 and in addition one-on-one tutoring is offered to any students requiring extra tuition. These aspects support learning and provide the opportunity for staff to identify issues outside the training environment which may be impacting on learning.

Student Management

Leanne Nagy and Tracy Bedford - Student Care

Leanne Nagy and Tracy Bedford form our student support team. The team has looked after hundreds of international students in their time with the Academy.

At the Commercial Pilot Academy we take our pastoral care responsibility seriously. Accordingly, we have a full-time team dedicated to providing in-country emotional and practical support to our international students. Leanne Nagy works on-site to provide administrative support, while Tracy Bedford works in the field to ensure students are supported outside of the formal learning environment.

We also ensure there is both academic and social support to help all students who are living away from home for the first time.

We support students to develop the daily routines, and the social and practical skills needed to successfully study and live independently.

Our Staff visit and support students outside course hours to help them integrate well into New Zealand society and enjoy their stay.

Students have 24 hour emergency telephone support and we will ensure a personal response should the need arise.

Commercial Pilot Academy immediately reports to parents/guardians and relevant NZ authorities if we judge a student to be at risk or if they are involved in any incident. We also provide direct support where necessary.

Counseling Service

We also provide access to a counseling service should that need arise - Details are provided in the Student Handbook.
